Today I am super excited to show you the project I have been working on!!! I converted a dresser into a tv stand. Let me give a a little back story on this dresser. Well when I moved into my house, I had this little tv that I kept in my room so buying a tv stand didn’t matter to me. I did however buy this little table so that when people came over I could place it on the table so that everyone could see. Well my mom decided that enough was enough! Every time she came to visit I would have to haul my little tv from my room to the living room. Once, she and my grandaddy came down for a weekend and wanted to watch the game and went in on me! The jokes were coming hard! Well needless to say, that day, I became the proud owner of a decent sized tv. So since I have this nice tv, I know figured I should get a stand. That was still at the bottom of my list. I have looked around for some but haven’t found one that I really wanted to commit to.This nice tv has been sitting on this table for a few months. Don’t get me wrong, the table did the trick while it lasted.
Well the other day as I was driving through my neighborhood, minding my own business, I noticed that one of my neighbors had put out a dresser at the end of her yard. I kept on driving by, telling myself I don’t need another project! Well as I was going to work the next day, it called my name as I was passing by. But I was like Constance, keep driving by!!! I kept on driving but I could not get that dresser out of my mind! So many Pinterest ideas were flooding my brain!!! As I was at work, I told my coworker what I had come across and the things I could do with it and she was like get it!! Well lucky for me, I knew my neighbor, actually worked for her years ago in college. So I called her and told her I wanted to take some stuff off her hands. She was like yes, take it!!! She even threw in a super nice table and chairs! ( I don’t need another table! If anybody wants it, you know how to get in contact with me) What is funny is that when I went to pick it up, someone had the same thing in mind but I beat them to it. They took the drawers from it. I think they took the drawers first and was coming back to get the dresser. Oh well!!! Not fast enough!! lol I called my favorite neighbor who has become like family to me, and he got his truck and hauled it to my house. He was like Connie, what do you need with this, you already have enough stuff! Exactly I do have enough stuff but I just had to have it. I told him I wanted to convert it into a tv stand. He was like ohhh, in a “ok whatever” kind of tone. He didn’t see the vision, but I had.

So I was so excited, that whole night I researched what I needed and instructions for this conversion. I woke up the next morning (4:30 a.m. I had to go workout before I took on this adventure) with my vision and was ready to work. As soon as the doors of Lowe’s opened 6:00 am, I was getting what I needed. Things I bought: primer, white paint, hammer, spray paint and sandpaper. I first had to sand down the dresser, it was pretty old and had sat outside for awhile. I then had to knock out the shelves because this was a 9 drawer dresser. I only wanted 2 drawers to stay. This was my first time using a hammer! I think I did a great job! The next step was a mistake. I bought a paint and primer in one and tried painting. Well that wasn’t working because the dresser was brown. So I had to go back to Lowe’s to buy some primer to coat the dresser before I added more white paint. That took me a couple coats, more like 7 or 8 coats. I wanted to make sure there was no trace of brown at all!!!

While that was drying I decided to work on some accessories for the tv stand. I got these baskets from one of my jobs. They were about to throw them out!!! So I snatched them up because I knew I could do something with them. I am getting to the point of everything I see, I can envision something great when you are thinking its old and worthless. Well because they were black, I went and bought some gold spray paint and painted them.

I also wanted a more sturdy bottom so I went to Lowes to get some wood cut to place at the bottom of the tv stand. Getting wood cut is a story all in itself. Let’s just say a blind man could have cut my wood better than this person! I had to get a another employee to cut it for me. I was not paying for no jacked up wood! I was THAT customer! I painted the wood to match the the tv stand and then I placed them inside the tv stand on the bottom. Once that was completed, I pushed it into my living room and started decorating it. I added the baskets I painted and a few books to show off my intelligence and boom it was done!

I hope you enjoy the pictures! I really enjoyed this project!!
