As we enter graduation season, let’s just be honest, anybody in the education system is NOT surprised by these college scandals. We, especially black people, are just surprised that it is being handled. I read this article that stated that there is not one high school teacher in America that is not surprised due to the fact of the things that they deal with on a daily basis. Here is my personal opinion which stems from personal experience and some readings from doing some research.
When I read the news, I could literally think of a few parents in which I have been in contact with that popped in my head. I could see them doing this based off my experience with them. Also, due to some heavy reading about teachers vs parents I have narrowed my research about education in the areas of:
- High School education and the pressures for students to perfom well,
- Snowplow parenting (look it up, its a real thing, especially in private schools)
- Paying for grades
- and DING DING DING, sound the alarm: the abuse that high school teachers go through, especially from parents dying to have their precious children to recieve the highest grades to be accepted into the most prestigous school.
One article I read that the most disrespected teacher is (a) the female teacher, (b)who teaches in highschool, (c) in a private/relious school. Let’s think about that. So basically, when someone who is paying for their child’s tuition feels as though becuase they are paying they should get what they want, leads you to this college scandal.
I will not write a long essay about what I think about this situation but I will say, I PRAY that I am not like the parents that will risk everything, including jail time, reputation and heaven over a grade and/or college admittance. Let’s do better. Teachers should not have to deal with this foolishness! Teachers should get paid more. Ok, I’m done. I could go on and on about the education system. But you get what I am saying.
